Preventive Dental Care in Arvada
At Generations Family and Cosmetic Dentistry, we’ve built our practice on a foundation of preventive care. While we have the skill and technique to solve most common dental problems, the truth is that we’d much rather help you prevent them in the first place.
By taking the time twice a year to have a check-up with Dr. Compton and Dayna, you could be saving yourself thousands of dollars in dental treatments as well as a great deal of discomfort. Many dental problems are quite painful and we don’t want our patients to have to go through that.
Professional Cleanings with a Skilled Hygienist
Our dental hygienist, Dayna, provides skillful, thorough, and gentle cleanings. You might be wondering why cleanings are so important. After all, if you brush your teeth every day, aren’t you achieving the exact same thing?
This is, unfortunately, a common misconception. While toothbrushes, dental floss, and other at-home products do a pretty good job, nothing is as effective as a cleaning with a highly-skilled hygienist. For one thing, think about the difference in time. You brush your teeth twice a day for about two minutes or so. Dayna will spend the better part of an hour carefully checking each tooth and scraping away all traces of plaque and tartar. Your toothbrush and floss simply can’t reach every nook and cranny and some areas are usually missed, even with great brushing habits. Dayna will examine those areas in particular and make sure they are clean. Plus, any traces of plaque that remain after brushing will soon harden into tartar—and tartar can only be removed with professional tools.
Your cleaning appointment is also a great opportunity for Dayna to check the condition of your gums and look for signs of gum disease. She’ll review your home care habits with you and provide any advice that could help you improve your technique.
Routine Check-ups Help Avoid Dental Disease
Like most health conditions, dental problems that are caught early are much simpler and less costly to treat. Catching problems early typically helps you to avoid discomfort.
At our Arvada dental office, we use advanced technology to help us identify problems as early as possible. Our digital x-rays provide us with detailed information about what’s happening beneath the surface of your teeth so we can spot developing infections or cavities. We also use the CariFree Bacterial Scanner to identify areas where cavities are developing and Hain Bacterial Testing to identify the bacteria involved if you are developing periodontal disease so that we can prescribe treatments that target the infection more precisely. Dr. Compton will also perform an oral cancer screening to look for signs of this potentially dangerous disease.
